Athlete running on indoor track, wearing red "Trojans" jersey.

While shooting track photos in Red Deer, I was working with my friend’s older Canon camera. It wasn’t exactly ideal for indoor action. The autofocus struggled to keep up, and I wasn’t getting the sharp visuals I originally set out for. So I shifted my approach. At the core of my photography is a focus on capturing the human condition. A single expression can tell a story, especially in sport where dedication, pain, and raw emotion are always close to the surface. Rather than fight against the camera’s limitations, I leaned into them. Inspired by cinema, I embraced the natural grain of the indoor setting and applied a vintage, cinematic grade to amplify the mood. The result is a set of images that feel honest, gritty, and deeply human.
